The sounds of the night echoed through the wind and trees
Twas the sound of baaahs and bleeting of sheep.
The chirps of crickets was magnified to the shepherds this night,
As they sat by the fire with no worry or fright.
Suddenly without warning from any of creation,
An angel appeared in a blinding declaration.
The light so brilliant that it lit the entire countryside
Peaceful tidings spoken, else from fear they’d have cried.
As the shepherds became calm and took note of their guest,
They wondered of his visit, was there some foe or quest?
Was a battle to be won or a calamity on the horizon?
But the cherub’s news told of God’s Son arising.
“Celestial” informed them that the Savior had been born,
No longer would the world be hopeless and forlorn.
All the prophecies came true in the manger birth that day,
Pondering all these wondrous things, they had nothing to say.
It was told them where to find the holy baby Jesus
All the words spoken to them were all together precious.
But after all the tidings were delivered by the angel from on high,
And the visitor returned to his home in the sky.
The shepherds were speechless, not even breathing a sigh,
For they knew the holiest of holy had been ever so nigh.
Then an angelic multitude began singing the same news,
Afterwards, a holy hush, and a mighty message to muse.
